Late Start Morning: Tuesday 5th May 2026

Tuesday 5 May

School will start at 10.25 a.m. for all students

As a school we are required to provide time for professional development of our teachers. In 2026 we plan to use three staff only days and four mornings to run professional development opportunities and curriculum days for our teachers. Staff professional development in 2026 is focused on improving teaching and learning practices using the science of learning and evidence-based research in order to maximise student learning and achievement.

The second of these mornings is Tuesday 5 May.

The timetable for this morning will be as follows: period 2 will run from 10.25 a.m. until

11.25 a.m. and period 3 will run from 11.25 a.m. until 12.25 p.m. There will be no interval

or form time and the afternoon classes will run to normal times. Supervision will be provided for students who arrive at school before 10.00 a.m. in the school library.

The Purau/Diamond Harbour/Governors Bay buses will run later to coincide with our late start, leaving Purau at approximately 9.25am, Church Bay 9.30am, Teddington 9.45am, and Governors Bay 10am.

The #64 bus will run later this morning, leaving Hargood St at 9.45am , getting to St Martins New World (Wilsons Rd) at 9.58am and arriving at Rose St at 10.14am.

Curriculum Days 2026 (staff only days)

To support the successful rollout of curriculum and assessment changes, the Government has approved two curriculum days for each of the 2026 and 2027 school years. These days are for teachers and leaders to engage in professional learning and planning, focused on new curriculum content and smarter assessment approaches.

Curriculum days are part of the Government’s strategy to lift student achievement. They also align with the priorities of a clearer curriculum and smarter assessment and reporting, helping schools prepare to teach the new curriculum.

Future dates for late start mornings in 2026 are currently set as:

· Thursday 30th July (Term 3 Week 2)

· Friday 23rd October (Term 4 Week 2)

Curriculum Days for 2026 are planned for:

· Friday 29th May (Term 2 Week 6),

· Thursday 12th November (Term 4 Week 5) (NCEA external exams will still run on this date).

One further staff only day for professional learning and development is planned for:

· Monday 30th November (Term 4 Week 8)

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Yours sincerely

Carla Smith

Associate Principal
