Expectations / Responsibility / Resources

On this page you will find information about the requirements of you as a teacher and the resources to help support you in this role.

Expectations of Teaching Staff

The Teaching Concil set the Code of Professional Responsibility and Standards for the eaching Profession.  The Professional Standards for Secondary Teachers - Criteria for Quality Teaching (set out in the STCA) provide the minimum standards for attestation and competency.

Teacher Registration

Current registration is essential for all teachers if they are teaching at any school in New Zealand.  It is the responsibility of teaching staff to ensure they are registered.  Teachers cannot teach without current registration and both teachers and schools can be fined.  The appropriate forms for this and other registration matters, can be downloaded from the Teaching Council website: www.teachingcouncil.nz

Carla Smith (Associate Principal) is your first point of contact if you require any assistance.

Three months before your registration is due to expire Carla will send you an email with instructions as to how to complete the renewal process.

Teachers are required to pay for their own registration costs as these are not covered by the current Secondary Teachers’ Collective Agreement (STCA) 2019-2022.
