Year 9 Drama

The half year course introduces students to the exciting world of Theatre and Performance. Through the course students will explore the many components that combine to create a performance and learn how they can be controlled to impact others. Through a blend of theory and practice, students will delve into the history of theatre, gain insight into various dramatic genres, and develop essential skills in acting, stagecraft, and script analysis. They will also have the opportunity to participate in hands-on exercises, collaborate with peers in scene work, and explore the nuances of character development. With a focus on building confidence, fostering teamwork, and honing expressive abilities, this course lays the groundwork for future studies in theatre and the pursuit of a lifelong passion for the performing arts.

Year 10 Drama

Building upon the foundational knowledge gained in the Year 9 Drama, this program offers students a deeper exploration into the world of performing arts, with a particular emphasis on audience education, as well as an introduction to screen acting. 

This course focuses on the art of captivating an audience, through providing learnings about the world around us, and uses theatre and performance as a means to promote positive change. Through practical exercises and collaborative projects, students not only refine their craft but also learn specific skills in improvisation, stage combat and costume design. The overall aim for this course is to extend students’ passions for theatre and performance, preparing them for studying Performing Arts in NCEA and the Senior School.
