Dance 101

This full year NCEA course seeks to find the artist within each student through the development of theirdance technique, choreographic skills, and understanding of the specific performance requirements of avariety of dance styles and genres. Specifically students will study: 

Contemporary Movement

Students will learn and perform three different Contemporary Movement dance sequences, each focusingon a different aspect of Contemporary dance.

Choreography

Students will choreograph their own dance sequences to communicate the ideas of, or the requirements of,three different briefs. Students will be encouraged to grow their own strengths and styles of Dance.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Ensemble Dance

Students will learn and perform a dance to demonstrate their ensemble skills. The piece will be chosen inrelation to the interests and skills of each particular class.

Students will participate in a variety of practical workshops, research, discussion, and observation of other’swork. The focus of which will be on developing an understanding of the specific language and performance​​​​​​​vocabulary of Dance. ​​​​​​​
