Kapa Haka

Kapa haka at Te iringa o Kahukura  provides an avenue for Māori students to access the Māori world and be culturally-connected learners. 

There is the aspect of learning and memorising language that provides them with a platform for expression. This gives them the opportunity to experience success, gain confidence through performance, and step up as leaders and role models.

The social aspect of meeting each week (whanaungatanga) and performing as one (kotahitanga) allow students from all levels and ethnicity to come together to communicate using the visual and spiritual language of many traditional and modern waiata, haka, mōteatea and poi. 

The Kapa Haka group represents Cashmere High School at public events including pōwhiri, Manu Kōrero, Tūhono festival, Waitaha regional Kapa Haka competition and school graduations. Student opportunities for leadership are promoted and encouraged and acknowledged by the ‘Te Manu Korokī’ taonga which is presented at Te Tū o Kahukura.
