Information for Applicants
Applications are invited for the Cashmere High School Year 9 Scholarships.
Closing date for applications is Friday 20 July at 4.00 p.m. The 2008 Enrolment Form must be attached to this application.
Regulations
- The scholarships were established in 2002 by the Board of Trustees of Cashmere High School.
- Scholarships shall be awarded annually: two for Academic, one each for Maori, Music, and Sport..
- A candidate shall be awarded only one scholarship.
- The value of each scholarship shall be $1000. $500 to be paid per half year, at the start of Terms 1 and 3.
- The scholarships shall be open to any Year 8 student who is a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, who is applying for entry to Year 9 at Cashmere High School in 2007. Scholarships can only be awarded to in-zone students or students who win a place in any ballot the school may have.
- Successful applicants will be offered a scholarship on Friday 3 August.
- The acceptance of a place and scholarship must be confirmed by Friday 10 August.
- Once a decision has been reached no correspondence shall be entered into.
- The Board of Trustees reserves the right to withdraw a scholarship should the successful applicant, in the view of the Principal, not meet the required standards of attendance and work performance.
Selection Criteria and Application Procedure
Academic Scholarship
Selection is by examination. Two 40 minute tests, one in English and one in Mathematics will be completed. Papers from previous years are not available.
The examination will be held at Cashmere High School on Thursday 26 July 2007, from 9.20am to 11.00am.
- Complete and return the Scholarship Application Form to the school before 4.00pm on Friday 20 July 2007.
- Details of the format for the examination day mailed to applicants on receipt of the application but no later than Tuesday 24 July 2007.
Maori Scholarship
Selection is by interview with the Maori teachers and a Deputy Principal.
Applicants must have interest and involvement in Taha Maori.
- Fill in the application form. There is a section in which to list iwi affliliation/s. Confirmation of Maori descent must be certified by an iwi representative e.g. kaumatua, kuia, Māori teacher or leader of a Maori community group.
- Submit a curriculum vitae statement introducing yourself. This should include academic, cultural and sporting achievements and any hapū, iwi and community involvement.
- Applicants will be shortlisted and those required for an interview on the morning of Friday 27 July will be notified after 20 July 2007.
Māori Tohu
Mā te uiuitanga i ngā kaiako Māori me tētahi Tūmuaki Awhina ka whiriwhiri. Me ū te kaitona ki tōna Taha Māori.
- Whakautua te pepa tono. Whakakī tēnei wahanga ki o hapu me o iwi hoki. Mā tētahi kaumātua tētahi kuia tētahi kaiako Māori tētahi kaihautū hāpori Māori rānei koe e tautoko ki tō tono.
- Hōmai he kōrero tuhi e whakahua ana koe. Kei roto hoki i tēnei kōrero tuhi he kōrero mōu i te kura he kōrero mōu i ngā tikanga Māori he kōrero mōu i ngā hākinakina me ngā kōrero ki tōu ake hapū ki tōu ake iwi ki tōu ake hāpori hoki.
- Ka whakarāpoto ngā kaitono. Kātahi ka uiui atu ki ngā kaitono kua eke ā te ahiahi o te Rāmere te 27 o Hōngongoi. (I muri I te 20) Hōngongoi).
Music Scholarship
Selection is by audition with the Head of Arts Faculty and the Head of the Music Department.
Applicants must have an interest and ability in some aspect of music. There should be evidence of passion and commitment to excel in some aspect of music.
- Fill in the application form.
- Submit a musical curriculum vitae statement, including the name of at least one registered music teacher able to testify to the applicant’s musical ability and current musical involvement.
- Applicants will be shortlisted and those required for an audition on the afternoon of Friday 27 July will be notified after 20 July 2007.
Sport Scholarship
Selection is by interview with the Sports Coordinator and Deputy Principal with responsibility for Sport.
Applicants must have displayed outstanding skill and talent in one or more sporting codes. There should be evidence of passion and commitment to excel in some aspect of sport.
- Fill in the application form.
- Submit a sporting curriculum vitae statement including the names of at least one coach able to testify to the applicant’s sporting ability and current sporting involvement.
- Applicants will be shortlisted and those required for an interview on the afternoon of Friday 27 July will be notified after 20 July 2007.
