Christchurch City

Christchurch is an important national and international centre of learning and Cashmere High School is a member of Education Christchurch, a group committed to the city and region being the premier New Zealand centre for international student programmes.

Visitors to Christchurch are soon captivated by the natural beauty of the mountains, the farmland and ocean vistas of this region. Besides the remarkable scenic sights there is a clean and progressive attitude in the city. It has many parks, golf courses, public gardens and river scenery. Shopping and commerce are modern and widespread. The city is known for its English character and offers many public facilities, including libraries, sports stadiums, entertainment centres, art galleries and museums.

Christchurch has a mild climate without extremes of weather. The summer average is approximately 20 degrees celsius and the winter average is 10 degrees.

Cashmere High School is in the south of the city, nestled below the popular and affluent hills housing suburbs. Many students enjoy homestay accommodation with marvellous views and very comfortable living arrangements. There are spacious grounds and sports fields at the school. The classrooms are heated in winter and ventilated in summer, but not requiring air conditioning because of the temperate climate. A redeveloped Performing Arts Centre has recently been completed and a purposely designed international student centre at the school is a special feature of the school environment.

The school aims to prepare its New Zealand students and its international students to be responsible world citizens. There is a school-wide emphasis in the protection of the environment, both of the school and the country in which we live. There are also strong social attitudes to recognise and accept differences between people and to live in a peace loving world.

Cashmere High School is a safe and caring community of young people and their teachers. There is no better place for young people wanting to make their way in the world.
