While there is more to education than just qualifications, the reality is that our national qualifications (known as NCEA) results are often seen by the wider community as a key educational outcome.
NCEA can provide a mountain of statistical data on student achievement – which can be difficult for parents, employers and the community to interpret. As a school we do our own analysis of the NZQA data each year, to identify how our results compare with previous cohorts within the school and also how we compare against other schools across the country.

Cashmere High School consistently out performs the national averages across all Year levels in NCEA pass rates – which is very pleasing. Such pass rate comparison can be problematic as some less academic schools only offer internal assessments or vocational unit standards.
Every year the proportion of Cashmere High School students attaining such endorsements outperforms national benchmarks when compared to all New Zealand schools, all decile 8 schools and all schools in the Canterbury region.
For a student to attain an “Endorsement with Merit” or an “Endorsement with Excellence”, they not only must pass their NCEA qualification at their level of study, but also attain a minimum of fifty credits at grades of Merit or Excellence. These endorsements are now becoming increasing important for students when they apply for high demand tertiary courses like medicine and engineering, and also by employers to clearly differentiate between students for employment opportunities.
Cashmere High School is one of the consistently highest achieving schools in its students attaining individual senior academic scholarships through the NZQA premier NZ Scholarship Awards. Each year our school regularly gains a significant number of individual scholarships across a wide range of subjects.
